On May 9th 2016 a rare astronomical event will occur. Mercury will make a rare transit of the Sun and will be visible across Europe, Africa, The Americas, The Pacific and much of Asia. This will be the first such visible transit since 2006 and given the right conditions will be an enthralling sight. The transit will begin at 12.12 BST and will end at 19.41 BST with first contact at 12:12:18 in Exeter.
