Messenger ends mission with a bang.

The NASA Messenger mission was launched in 2004 and has been orbiting Mercury since 2011, gathering important scientific data. The mission ended about 20.00 hrs GMT when the probe was deliberately crashed into the planets North Pole. Messenger slammed into our Solar System’s smallest planet at 8,750mph (14,000km/h) – 12 times quicker than the speed of sound and was totally obliterated.
